Dr. Dane Dell understands technology’s ability to better the lives of others. He is also aware that these benefits do not always reach those who are most in need of those technological amenities. As such, technology access and education are areas of his professional work that truly captivate him. In his view, increased connectivity in conjunction with the ability to make use of digital and information resources are essential to improving our most impoverished communities.
After graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and Psychology, Dane earned his Masters in Information Management at the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University. He then went on to complete his Doctorate in Information Science & Technology- also at Syracuse University- where he devoted his studies to understanding issues related to the “digital divide”, as well as the success and failure of large scale Information System projects.
Previously, Dane has served as a coding instructor and presenter for programs and conferences such as “Men in Stem”, “The Blackman Can Institute”, and the “Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP)”. He has also occupied several teaching roles at the iSchool of Syracuse University; leading a variety of technology related courses. Currently, Dr. Dell serves as the Director of Information Systems for the Onondaga County Public Library system where, among his other responsibilities, he seeks out and oversees projects aimed at improving computer literacy and access to information and communication technologies.
